Maximilian Günther has confirmed he is leaving the Maserati MSG Racing FIA Formula E team, with team-mate Jehan Daruvala also confirmed to be leaving the team.
The German, who finished eighth in the Drivers’ standings, took to his X account to make the announcement, saying:
“Grazie mille @maseratimsg! – This past weekend marked my last race for the legendary trident.
“I want to thank the entire team for all their hard work, support and friendship over the past two years.”
In the thread, Günther added: “I will announce my upcoming plans in Formula E with you soon…”
Günther, who joined Maserati from Nissan ahead of Season 9, is expected to be announced as Jean-Éric Vergne’s new team-mate at DS Penske, with the Franco-American squad confirming the exit of Season 8 Champion Stoffel Vandoorne earlier today.
In two seasons with the Monegasque-Italian outfit, Günther took victories in Jakarta last year and in Tokyo this year, winning the inaugural race in the Japanese capital after a thrilling tussle with Oliver Rowland. Season 10 has also season a number of impressive drives from Günther, including in São Paulo, where he would finish ninth after starting from the back as well as taking a stop-and-go penalty.
Although not confirmed by the team nor driver, Formula E have taken to their social media to announce that Daruvala will also be leaving the team. The Indian has struggled to adapt to the sport, scoring eight points across two races.
With Vandoorne highly-linked to replace Günther in a straight swap with Penske, the second seat is likely to go to Jake Hughes, who is reportedly set to leave NEOM McLaren after two seasons.
