IndyCar has announced that Jack Harvey will not be competing in Sunday’s double-header race from Iowa Speedway.
The Briton has been suffering with severe neck and upper back pain since last weekend’s race at Mid-Ohio, and was in obvious pain while turning laps during the early part of the weekend in Iowa.
Harvey drove just 28 laps in Saturday’s race before the stresses on his neck forced him to retire the car.
In his place, DCR is bringing in Conor Daly to drive the #18 entry for the second race, which takes place just before noon on Sunday.
There was an effort to have Daly drive the car for Saturday’s race as well, but the series did not permit the driver change on account of Daly’s lack of recent practice.
There was not track time available ahead of Saturday’s race for the 32-year-old to complete a few laps behind the wheel of the #18, and IndyCar officials did not want his first laps at the track in a year to be in live race conditions.
Daly has only raced in the Indianapolis 500 this season, and ran a partial season with a few different teams over the course of 2023.
He finished 17th and 22nd during the two Iowa events last year while driving for Meyer Shank Racing, and has a best finish of eighth on the short oval.
DCR will have to forfeit the qualifying position earned by Harvey on account of the late driver change, and Daly will have to start from the rear of the field for the race.
Daly has driven for Coyne a few times over the course of his IndyCar career, including a full season effort in 2016 and an Indy 500 run in 2018.
The second race of the double-header weekend takes place at 11:00 AM central time, just a few hours after the official substitute announcement.
