Toyota’s Sebastien Buemi set the fastest lap in an extended second practice at Interlagos for the FIA World Championship’s 6 Hours of Sao Paulo, with the Swiss just 0.033 faster than his teammate, and Toyota team principal, Kamui Kobyashi, with the two Ferraris just half a tenth back in an exceedingly close session.
Buemi, in the #8 Toyota GR010 Hybrid, set a 1:25.727 half an hour into the session, with Kobayashi in the sister #7 car on a 1:25.760, with the Japanese driver setting his time late in the session.
#51 Ferrari 499P’s Alessandro Pier Guidi was just a hundredth behind Kobayashi, with newly-minted Le Mans winner Antonio Fuoco in the #50 Ferrari a further six thousandths off.
In fifth was Alex Lynn in the #2 Cadillac V-Series.R, 0.142 slower than Buemi. Sixth and seventh were the two JOTA Porsches, Callum Ilott in the #38 ahead of Jenson Button in the #12. Robert Shwartzman was eighth quickest in the satellite #83 AF Corse Ferrari. FP1 session topper Nico Muller was ninth for Peugeot, while Julien Andlauer rounded out the top 10 in the Proton Porsche customer entry.
In the LMGT3 category, Lexus’s Jose Maria Lopez made it a Toyota all-rounder (sort of), with the Argentinian setting a 1:35.725 in the #87 Akkodis ASP Lexus RC F GT3.
Second was fastest LMGT3 driver, Nicolas Costa, in the #59 United Autosports McLaren 720S GT3, just over a tenth and half off Lopez. Third was Alex Riberas in the #27 Heart of Racing Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT3.
