Dale Coyne Racing has confirmed that Katherine Legge will be driving the team’s #51 entry for this weekend’s double-header event from Iowa Speedway.
Legge drove for DCR for the first time during the most recent Indy 500, qualifying 29th and finishing 31st after suffering engine trouble during the race.
She tested with the team at Iowa recently, and the announcement confirms the expected news that she will also climb into the cockpit for the two races this upcoming weekend.
“I’m thrilled to be behind the wheel of an IndyCar Series car at the Iowa doubleheader this weekend,” Legge said.
“We had a successful test there last week, and I’m really looking forward to seeing how the races unfold on the new surface. I’m grateful to Dale Coyne and Honda and so happy to be back in the 51.”
The announcement only gives Legge a ride for one weekend, and continues the trend of different drivers piloting the #51 for virtually every race of the season.
Having the 43-year-old return for the first short oval of the year could prove an advantage that many other young and inexperienced drivers would not be able to deliver.
“We’re looking forward to having Katherine back in the car with us at Iowa this weekend,” team owner Dale Coyne said.
“She did a good job for us at Indy, and we had a strong test at Iowa Speedway last week with both Katherine and Jack [Harvey]. We’re excited to see what the doubleheader weekend in Iowa brings.”
The first practice for the Iowa Speedway double-header takes place Friday afternoon, with the two races running at 7:00 PM central time Saturday, and 11:30 central time on Sunday.
