Jorge Martin claimed pole position at the MotoGP German Grand Prix to ensure that he will lead from the front for the fourth time this season at the Sachsenring.
His lap time of 1.19.423s wasn’t beaten after an early run in the session, with Trackhouse Aprilia duo of Miguel Oliveira and Raul Fernandez rounding off the front row.
Factory Ducati’s Francesco Bagnaia will start in fourth spot, with Alex Marquez and Franco Morbidelli accompanying the double-reigning champion on the second row.
Vinales high-sided in Turn 10 with his Aprilia engine going up in smoke, but due to other riders not being able to improve on another run, he retained the seventh spot.
Fabio Di Giannantonio pipped Enea Bastianini for eighth place, with KTM riders Pedro Acosta and Brad Binder finishing in ninth and tenth respectively.
Both Acosta and Binder finished half a second behind the second factory Ducati rider in what has been a lacklustre weekend thus far for the Austrian marque.
Marco Bezzecchi placed his VR46 Ducati in 12th following his qualification from Q1 earlier in the session.
Chaos occurred in Q1 which saw Marc Marquez narrowly miss out on a Q2 spot after his last lap time was impeded by Honda test rider Stefan Bradl. This will put Marquez 13th on the grid.
Fabio Quartararo will start 14th with GasGas rider Augusto Fernandez out-qualifying KTM companion Jack Miller who finished just behind.
Taakaki Nakagami qualified as the lead Honda rider in 16th ahead of the vastly improved Luca Marini, who will start both races in 17th.
Johann Zarco and Joan Mir haven’t been able to match the pace of their team-mates but followed in the final classification, with Bradl finishing a tenth behind the 2020 champion.
Remy Gardner will occupy the final spot on the grid, but only by the narrowest of margins as he was under 0.020s off the Honda test rider.
