Alex Rins will miss this week’s German GP following his crash at Assen, with Yamaha WorldSBK rider Remy Gardner stepping in to replace him.
Rins’ Dutch GP race weekend ended inside the first two corners as he was launched off his Yamaha bike in a high-side incident.
The repercussions saw the six-time race winner suffer two small fractures in his left leg and right hand, which led to a successful surgery operation on Monday morning.
The 28-year-old reportedly had a pin removed from his right leg earlier than planned so he could combine the operation into one.
Yamaha test rider Cal Crutchlow was unable to be considered to fill in due to him still recovering from a right-hand injury.
Yamaha made an official announcement Tuesday morning to announce Rins’ replacement – the former Tech3 and current WorldSBK rider Gardner.
Gardner’s lone season in MotoGP saw him face the axe following the end of 2022 before electing to move to WorldSBK, where he has settled ever since.
Gardner is relishing this opportunity presented to him, stating: “First of all, I hope Alex can have a fast recovery and I wish him all the best.
“I’m really excited about this challenge. I just want to say ‘Thank you so much’ to Yamaha for trusting me to ride this weekend.
“I will use it as a great experience to learn. It’s a new bike, and coming back to MotoGP for one race is always a nice experience.
“So I’m looking forward to enjoying this weekend, and I’m just extremely happy for this opportunity. Once again a big ‘Thank you’ to Yamaha.”
