Aprilia is finalising a move to acquire current VR46 rider Marco Bezzecchi for the 2025 MotoGP season to replace KTM-bound Maverick Vinales, according to reports.
Motorsport.com has reported that Bezzecchi’s future in MotoGP will lie with Aprilia as the Italian will leave his affiliation with Valentino Rossi’s satellite Ducati squad.
Bezzecchi sustained vast success last season as he won three races in Argentina, Le Mans and India on a season-old Ducati bike to come third in the championship.
Those results granted him the chance to ride a GP24 at Pramac alongside current championship leader Jorge Martin in 2024, but he elected to remain with his team.
However, the decision has appeared to backfire to date as he has struggled to get to grips with a GP23 this term and resides 11th overall in the Riders’ Championship.
The repercussions that might come from a potential Bezzecchi move to Aprilia could involve Pramac edging closer to signing a deal to move from Ducati to Yamaha.
The report hints that Ducati signing Marc Marquez to the works squad has caused some agitation in the VR46 camp, considering Ducati’s vision aligns with its vision.
“What is clear is that Marc’s signing has not gone down well,” a VR46 source disclosed.
“It’s not just that he has blown the brand’s philosophy out of the water, but also that he will certainly not bring stability.”
Bezzecchi is one of several riders on the grid who benefitted from Valentino Rossi’s Academy, which has likely caused friction with Ducati regarding a potential move.
