FIA Formula E’s CEO Jeff Dodds has teased the possibility of talks with Ferrari regarding the Italian giants entering the series in the future.
With the launch of the brand’s electrification plant next month, an electric road vehicle is very much on the horizon, and when asked by motorsport.com whether any talks have taken place with the prancing horse regarding entering FE, Dodds replied: “Maybe,” adding that Ferrari involvement would “elevate the championship.”
However, Ferrari did dampen some excitement, telling the same outlet: “Our focus today is on F1 and endurance – and [we] have recently announced we will be taking the race where we never have before – water,” which alludes to a recently-unveiled sailing project.
The likelihood of Ferrari entering Formula E greatly depends on how long ago any potential talks began, with manufacturers running out of time to confirm entry for the GEN4 era, and given that the electric plant is yet to have been opened, it would seem unrealistic to expect any Ferrari team lining-up on an FE grid any time soon, but the addition of the McLaren brand in 2022 and the overall growth in popularity of the series – even within the Formula One fraternity – it would be churlish for the Maranello outfit to dismiss any involvement in the future outright.
