Red Bull’s Max Verstappen has equalled the Formula 1 record for the most consecutive pole positions with his eighth in a row at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.
The Dutchman, who was the sole competing Red Bull in Q3 as Sergio Perez endured a premature exit, produced a 1:14.746s when it mattered to pip Oscar Piastri.
The Australian edged out his McLaren team-mate Lando Norris at the death to claim a front-row starting spot, with Charles Leclerc fronting Ferrari’s charge again.
Carlos Sainz completed the top five in the other Ferrari car, with George Russell the leading Mercedes in sixth and Yuki Tsunoda impressing with seventh in the RB.
Lewis Hamilton settled for eighth place, two spots behind his Mercedes team-mate, with RB’s Daniel Ricciardo and Haas’ Nico Hulkenberg rounding out the top 10.
Aston Martin failed to have either driver advance through to the pole shootout, with Fernando Alonso eliminated in Q1 as he ran through the gravel on his sole run.
