Wayne Taylor Racing’s Acura #10 driven by Filipe Albuquerque went fastest on Friday afternoon at Laguna Seca, setting a lap time of 1:14.434
The newly resurfaced Laguna Seca saw blistering lap times on Friday afternoon, the Acura #10 driven by Filipe Albuquerque managed to top the time sheets with a lap time of 1:14.434.
Philipp Eng in the BMW #24 GTP would initially hold the fastest lap time in the first half of the session, eventually ending up only 0.019 behind the fastest time.
Mathieu Jaminet set the third fastest time for #6 Porsche Penske, raking up the most laps of anybody with 46 laps despite the disrupted red flag periods. #40 Acura’s Jordan Taylor would not be far behind the sister Acura, the pair separated by just 0.243 after 40 laps of running.
Jack Aitken in the Whelen Cadillac #31 would crash at Turn 4 bringing out the red flag early on in the session. However, despite the team being unable to get the car repaired before the end of the session, Aitken managed to set a lap time of 1:14.734, just a few tenths from the best time and rounding out GTP’s top five.
In the GTD class, Seb Priaulx for AO Racing went fastest in his #77 Porsche 911 with a lap time of 1:21.182 just narrowly beating the #3 Corvette driven by Alexander Sims, who was only a couple of tenths down on the Porsche, and had dominated the time sheets for most of the session.
Nicky Catsburg in the #4 Corvette would join the sister car at just over a couple of tenths down on the fastest time, with the #57 Mercedes AMG GT3 of Philip Ellis a further tenth of a second behind.
Rounding out the top five in GTD was the #78 Lamborghini of Loris Spinelli, who was just under a tenth away from the Mercedes in front.
Free practice 2 continues the IMSA action at Laguna Seca tomorrow, the session commences at 5.15pm UK time.
