Ferrari is closing on the appointment of Formula 1 design legend Adrian Newey once he departs Red Bull at the beginning of 2025, according to Italian media reports.
Rumours emerged last week that Newey had decided to call time on his almost two-decade association with Red Bull and the team has since confirmed he will leave.
The Briton, who is F1’s most celebrated ever designer with 25 championships to his name, will continue to attend sporadic races across the remainder of this season.
However, Newey’s remaining spell with Red Bull be predominantly spent focusing on the RB17 Hypercar, which is to be unveiled at the Goodwood venue in two months.
Newey’s current contract with Red Bull runs through 2025 and it was divulged that it comprised a non-compete clause that added an extra 12 months gardening leave.
But lawyers associated with Newey have appeared to have reduced that period, enabling him to begin work with a new team on the impending 2026 regulation change.
Although Aston Martin is thought to have presented a lucrative proposal to the design guru, Newey’s likeliest destination is speculated to be a switch across to Ferrari.
Ferrari is known to have had approaches to Newey knocked back on at least two previous occasions and the marque is again aiming to secure his coveted signature.
According to the Italian publication Formu1a.uno, Ferrari is the sole team on the current grid that Newey is considering at the moment in a “super consultant” position.
Meanwhile, La Gazzetta dello Sport has posted that Ferrari team boss Frederic Vassuer met with Newey this week in London to discuss the terms of a potential deal.
Both outlets have stated an agreement between the two parties is imminent and all that is missing is Newey putting pen to paper on a mouthwatering Ferrari contract.
