After a sizeable gap in the calendar, the NTT IndyCar Series took to the streets of Long Beach on Sunday. Just as the race was underway, an early caution led to a fascinating fuel saving strategy battle.
Scott Dixon, perhaps unsurprisingly, chose the strategy that required him to save fuel for the remainder of the race, and he completed the task just as prescribed. The Iceman held off hard chargers near the end, and earned his 57th career win.
Colton Herta finished second, partially on account of a bump and run he put on Josef Newgarden in the closing laps while both were chasing down Dixon ahead.

Alex Palou rounded out the podium, staying out of trouble and climbing from sixth to continue his impressive streak of top 10 finishes that goes back to 2022.
There is no wait until the third race of the 2024 season, and the entire paddock will reconvene in Alabama at Barber Motorsports Park next weekend.
