Aston Martin Formula 1 boss Mike Krack has revealed it plans to hold discussions with Lance Stroll over a new contract to remain at the team in the “next few weeks”.
The Silverstone-based squad announced last week that Alonso had elected to remain with the British marque with the signing of a multi-term extension through 2026.
Aston Martin hasn’t confirmed who will partner the Spaniard as the preparations ramp up towards the scheduled regulation change that will see it partner with Honda.
However, it is expected that Stroll will retain the seat that he has been the incumbent of since his father Lawrence led a consortium takeover of the British-based outfit.
Stroll has struggled since Alonso arrived at Aston Martin last season, with the Canadian having scored 83 points in comparison to the two-time World Champion’s 230.
Despite Carlos Sainz being available on the market amid his impending exit from Ferrari, Krack is adamant that a stable driver line-up is in Aston Martin’s best interests.
“Last week it was mainly about Fernando, but we also know that Aston Martin is Lance’s home,” Krack told Autosport.
“We know that and the whole project has always been around him. So we look for continuity. I have always said that that it is very important, so we will see in the next weeks.”
Alonso has admitted that he held tentative discussions with other teams prior to penning a renewal with Aston Martin, which will witness him participate in F1 at 45.
Krack has revealed that Aston Martin had agreed upon an earlier-than-usual deadline for Alonso’s choice to avoid the team being caught up in the 2025 driver market.
“We had always given ourselves some date at which we wanted to take a decision,” Krack added.
“There was an agreement that we took quite early. And it was really nice to see that just everybody stuck to what he said. So it went actually as we thought it would go.”
