The Formula 1 calendar for 2025 has been revealed with the Australian Grand Prix to return as the first round of the season to open a record-equalling 24-race schedule.
Notwithstanding 2006 and 2010, the Albert Park Circuit had acted as the traditional F1 curtain raiser since it came onto the roster in 1996.
But since the COVID-19 pandemic forced the 2020 race to be abandoned and the subsequent race to be cancelled, Bahrain had taken on that mantle from 2021 onwards.
However, Melbourne will return to its slot at the front of the calendar in 2025, meaning Lewis Hamilton’s much-anticipated debut race with Ferrari will occur Down Under.
The 2025 Australian GP will be held on March 14-16, with the Chinese Grand Prix then being held a week later at the Shanghai International Circuit between March 21-23.
A one-week break will then follow those two races before the Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka forms a tripleheader along with the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian Grands Prix.
The fourth running of the Miami Grand Prix at the Miami International Autodrome will reside in the same May slot that it has occupied since its inaugural round in 2022.
The predominant European stretch of the campaign will begin with the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix at Imola and end in September with the Italian Grand Prix at Monza.
But while the circuits present on the calendar will remain unchanged from 2024, there have been some slight alterations made to the schedule across the summer.
The Canadian Grand Prix – the outlier in the European-centric period – has swapped with the Spanish Grand Prix, which will be held in Barcelona for the final time.
The Hungaroring marks the last round before the summer break, with the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa remaining in the same time slot as 2024 but one round earlier.
Zandvoort will commence the run to the end of the season on 29-31 August, with the Dutch Grand Prix and the Italian Grand Prix at Monza following one week later.
From the Temple of Speed on the outskirts of Milan, the F1 circus will encounter a two-week break before the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, which retains a September slot.
Baku will no longer be held on successive weekends with Singapore and a fortnight also separates the race at the Marina Bay Circuit and F1’s second trip to America.
The United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas will be a doubleheader with Mexico, with the Sao Paulo Grand Prix to come two weeks later next season.
Meanwhile, the choice to conclude the season with three straight weekends in Las Vegas, Qatar and Abu Dhabi has been retained despite criticism from some drivers.
The final race with the current generation of F1 cars will take place at the Yas Marina Circuit on 05-07 December ahead of the sport’s latest wholesale rules overhaul.
F1 has not revealed whether Sprint races will remain or which circuits will host the revised format in 2025, with a revamped arrangement to make its debut this weekend.
