McLaren Racing has announced that Chief Executive Officer Zak Brown has penned a long-term contract extension to remain in his position until the end of 2030.
Brown was appointed the Executive Director of McLaren Technology Group in 2016 and elected to cut short the team’s disastrous Formula 1 partnership with Honda.
The American transitioned into his current CEO position in 2018 and negotiated a deal that rekindled McLaren’s successful engine partnership with Mercedes in 2021.
The Woking-based squad took a memorable 1-2 at the Italian Grand Prix that season, with Daniel Ricciardo leading Lando Norris to end a drought dating back to 2012.
That has remained McLaren’s sole F1 GP win under Brown’s tenure, but he has been responsible for implementing changes that have transformed the team’s fortunes.
Brown’s choice to promote Andrea Stella to the role of Team Principal instigated a remarkable revival last term that saw McLaren become a front-running fixture again.
Stella headed a turnaround that took McLaren from battling to avoid Q1 eliminations to landing nine podiums, accumulating 302 points to claim fourth in the standings.
Meanwhile, McLaren has also expanded its portfolio to competing in the American IndyCar series, Extreme E and Formula E, where it took its maiden victory last weekend.
“I am thrilled to continue leading McLaren Racing and to be a part of such a historic race team,” Brown said.
“It is a privilege to work alongside the talented men and women across McLaren Racing’s different race series.
“Together, we will continue to push the boundaries of motorsport and strive for the highest performance on and off the track.”
Paul Walsh, McLaren Group Executive Chairman, added: “Zak has demonstrated exceptional leadership qualities and has been instrumental in driving McLaren Racing forward.
“His extension reflects our confidence in his ability to lead the team to even greater success in the years to come.”
