The top three comprised of Ferrari, Red Bull, Ferrari as Max Verstappen posted the second-best effort, 0.381s back and Carlos Sainz was third, 0.430s in arrears.
The Aston Martin pairing of Lance Stroll and Fernando Alonso completed the top five in the Canadian driver’s favour.
George Russell went sixth for Mercedes, with his team-mate Lewis Hamilton languishing in 18th.
Home hero Oscar Piastri posted the seventh fastest time for McLaren, with Sergio Perez, Lando Norris and RB’s Yuki Tsunoda completing the top-10.
Williams’ Alex Albon did not take part in the session after damage sustained to his FW46 during FP1.
