Enea Bastianini stole the show with a fantastic lap time to lead the pack in FP2 on his Ducati to book his place in Q2 tomorrow at MotoGP’s Portuguese Grand Prix.
Both KTM riders continued their strong show from FP1 with Jack Miller finishing the session in second, while Brad Binder wound up not far behind in fifth position.
Despite his first crash of the season on the Gresini Ducati in the final few minutes, Marc Marquez finished a modest third as he hopes to achieve pole in back-to-back years.
Current championship leader and reigning champion Francesco Bagnaia made it through to Q2 in eighth place, along with 2023 title rival Jorge Martin who was fourth.
Following a turbulent outing in Qatar, both factory Yamaha riders elevated to ninth and 10th in the order in the closing minutes to seal their respective spots in Q2.
Alex Rins put in an all-important lap to jump ahead of rookie Pedro Acosta to ensure both he and Fabio Quartararo progressed on their 2024 YZR-M1 challenger.
Aleix Espargaró’s difficult weekend continued with a late crash which put him down to 14th, but Maverick Vinales claimed seventh to claim a Q2 spot for tomorrow.
However, there was further misfortune for Franco Morbidelli, who had been inside the top 10 but a crash towards the end of the session saw him drop down to 15th.
Although Joan Mir had placed 10th on his Honda in FP1, the Spaniard was unable to replicate that pace and languished in 19th, with Luca Marini last on the sister bike.
