BMW’s Martin leads as Sebring heads into final third

BMW’s Maxime Martin leads at Sebring with 4 hours remaining, as the race steams towards its final stages.

Martin, in the #25 BMW M Hybrid V8, assumed the lead in the pitstop cycle after Pipo Derani’s huge crash about 30 minutes before the four hour mark. The Brazilian, in the #31 Action Express Cadillac V-Series.R, had led for much of the race alongside his teammates Jack Aitken and Tom Blomqvist. But Derani’s crash, which saw him flip the Cadillac after contact with the #21 Ferrari of Miguel Molina, has blown the race wide open.

The race is currently under yellow again, the eighth FCY, for debris from a Ford Mustang which went over the grass and lost some of the diffuser bodywork.

Second is Mathieu Jaminet in the #6 Porsche 963, and third is Ricky Taylor in the #10 WTRAndretti Acura ARX-06. At the restart after Derani’s crash Jesse Krohn, in the sister #24 BMW, was second, but by the end of the lap had dropped to fifth.
