Callum Ilott will get a second weekend behind the wheel of an IndyCar to start the 2024 season Arrow McLaren has confirmed, filling in with the team for the $1 million challenge from the Thermal Club.
Ilott was with the team this past weekend in St. Petersburg for the season opener, and will pilot the #6 entry one more time while David Malukas continues to recover from his injuries.
David Malukas dislocated his wrist in a mountain biking accident in February, and was given a roughly seven week timeline for recovery.
Confirmation about his participation in the upcoming exhibition event and test session was not given until Thursday, as he and his doctors continue to evaluate his progress.
Malukas was present at St. Petersburg alongside his new team, but watched from the pit stand with a wrap on his hand and did not climb into the car at any point.
Ilott finished 13th in the season opener, adjusting to his temporary team well and giving the entry a solid points day.
Ahead of the $1 million challenge on March 24, Ilott will also join the rest of the Arrow McLaren team at Barber Motorsport Park for a private test day on March 18.
The Briton is proving to have a pivotal role in the start of the season, helping veterans Pato O’Ward and Alexander Rossi test setups and make adjustments that the entire team can utilize for the rest of the season.
Following the couple outings with McLaren, Ilott will return to his scheduled duties as driver for Team Jota in the WEC Hypercar class for the remainder of the year.
Malukas is expected to be fully healed in time to make his Arrow McLaren debut in the second points paying race of the season, the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach, on April 21.
