Daniel Ricciardo was the surprise name atop the timesheets after first practice concluded for the 2024 Formula 1 season opener in Bahrain.
The RB driver set a 1:32.869s benchmark to top the session, 0.032s ahead of McLaren’s Lando Norris and 0.244s ahead of Oscar Piastri.
Ricciardo’s RB team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was fourth with Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso fifth.
Reigning World Champion Max Verstappen was the lead Red Bull in sixth, with Mercedes’ George Russell in seventh.
Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton and Sauber’s Valtteri Bottas rounded out the top 10.
