The final day of IndyCar’s full field preseason testing took place on Tuesday, and Marcus Ericsson was the driver that pushed his Andretti Global Honda around the track the fastest.
The 1.67-mile Sebring short course was lapped in just 51.9512 seconds by the Swede, faster than other drivers across both days of the test and the only driver below the 52 second threshold.
Will Power was the second fastest driver on the timesheets, followed closely by Pato O’Ward in the #5 Arrow McLaren entry.
Tuesday was the second consecutive day of running for O’Ward, as he had put his team-mate David Malukas’ #6 car through its paces the day before.
Each other driver was given just one day to familiarize themselves with the new components, which include a lighter Aeroscreen and new gearbox housing components.
The series’ new hybrid components, which have yet to be tested by any of the smaller teams, were not in use during the test, meaning the cars were in the configuration they will run at the upcoming season opener from St. Petersburg.
A few drivers were able to use the test to get accustomed to their new team’s cars, including Felix Rosenqvist in the Meyer Shank Racing #60 and Romain Grosjean in the Juncos Hollinger Racing #77.
Colin Braun also logged some valuable seat time in the Dale Coyne Racing #51, potentially foreshadowing his introduction to IndyCar this upcoming season in the team’s yet-to-be-filled race seats.
Braun was impressive during his 98 laps, and ended the session with a lap 0.16 seconds faster than Jack Harvey, who piloted the DCR car during the first day of the test and is also hoping to score at least some races with the team.
Overall, 2,115 laps were turned over the two days, and plenty of data was gathered ahead of the 2024 season opener on March 10 from the streets of St. Petersburg, Florida.
