The FIA World Endurance Championship has confirmed Julien Andlauer will make his Hypercar debut at the Qatari season-opener in the #99 Proton Competition Porsche 963, joining teammates Harry Tincknell and Neel Jani.
Having raced for the Dempsey-Proton Racing GTE-Am effort for the past four FIA WEC seasons, the 24-year-old will make his first step into the Hypercar category with Proton at the 1812 km race in Qatar, on 2 March.
At the end of the 2023 FIA WEC season, he notably drove his first laps behind the wheel of the team’s #99 963 at the post-season Rookie Test, with Rene Binder and Neel Jani also performing laps at the Bahrain International Circuit.
Last year, which was the final season of the GTE-Am category, he claimed his only victory of the season at the 6 Hours of Monza with Christian Ried and Mikkel Pedersen.
He has also driven in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship in Porsche 911 GT3.R machinery over the two previous seasons.
Most recently completed his second Asian Le Mans Series campaign, this time with Proton Competition in an Oreca 07 LMP2 although matched his other GT season by finishing runner-up in the championship standings once again.
The publication of the full entry list by the FIA WEC has officially confirmed all 111 drivers for the 19 Hypercars and 18 LMGT3 cars who will take on the Qatari season-opener at the beginning of next month.
Before that, however, the Prologue pre-season test will take place on 24-25 February to enable teams to prepare at the Losail International Circuit, a new venue for the championship this year.
