Two-time IndyCar Series champion Alex Palou has been announced as part of Chip Ganassi Racing’s driver lineup for the upcoming 24 Hours of Daytona, which will mark a second start for the Spaniard.
In a spell of repetition, Palou will return to compete in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season-opener in the #01 Cadillac Racing V Series.R.
His debut took place in 2022 with Chip Ganassi, and so he will compete in this year’s edition with the same teammates, with the difference being his machinery – a Cadillac LMDh as opposed to the DPi he drove before.
He will join Sebastien Bourdais, Scott Dixon and Renger van der Zande in the #01, as one of two Cadillacs in the GTP class of 10 entries.
Palou said: “I’m very excited to return to Daytona after competing with the team in the DPi era in 2022.
“I can’t wait to get behind the wheel of the new Cadillac V-Series.R, and it will be a great way to start the year early with such a great team and with such great teammates.
“I’ve had the privilege of racing with Scott, Sebastien and Renger, and I’m sure with all the preparation and knowledge that the team has, we’ll be able to fight for a win and maybe bring home some new watches at the end of January.”
During the 2022 race, Palou set the fastest lap time over any driver (1:33.724), and so he will set about asserting the pace which earned him the 2021 and 2023 IndyCar titles.
The 24 Hours of Daytona will commence on 27-28 January, with the Roar Before the 24 testing and qualifying one week prior on 19-21 January.
