Sauber has teased that a further “exciting” announcement regarding the team’s identity for the upcoming 2024 Formula 1 season will arrive on New Year’s Day.
Last week the FIA’s official entry list revealed that the Sauber-owned squad, run under the Alfa Romeo guise between 2019-23, will be branded Stake F1 Team Kick Sauber.
Kick, a streaming platform founded by Stake, has acquired the naming rights to Sauber’s chassis for the next two seasons. The 2024 car will be known as the Kick Sauber C44.
However, the Hinwil-based squad has today released an intriguing statement on social media detailing that more plans are in the pipeline, to be disclosed on January 1st, 2024.
“If you think you already know, think again,” the statement read. “It seems our recently released team name has been getting a lot of attention.
“While we’re not ready to unveil the final result yet, we are aware of what’s at stake.
“Rest assured, we’re on a mission to unleash the most exciting team identity this team has ever seen. Gone are the days of the short and sweet. We’re cooking up a feast.”
The Sauber Group had previously been running under the moniker of Alfa Romeo since 2019, having been tied to a title sponsorship deal with the Italian car manufacturer.
However, with that agreement coming to an end at the end of this year, the team is set to revert to the Sauber name for 2024 as it prepares to evolve into a works Audi team.
Last year it was announced that Audi would enter F1 for the first time in the marque’s history upon the impending widescale overhaul to the technical regulations in 2026.
Sauber Team Representative Alessandro Alunni Bravi confirmed recently that Audi will have no branding presence in the team until that point.
People get paid for making this stuff? And others for spreading it?
