Ahead of the 10th season of Formula E, NIO 333 Racing have successfully undergone a complete rebrand, with the side now being known as the ERT Formula E Team.
After being the backmarker side throughout the Gen2 era, NIO enjoyed an excellent start to life in Gen3. Dan Ticktum made several appearances in the duels and was a regular top-10 finisher in what was his sophomore season in the all-electric series.
Sérgio Sette Câmara’s season nine wasn’t anywhere near as good as Ticktum’s, although he’s been retained for season 10 alongside the Briton. Considering NIO were the only manufacturer on the grid without a customer outfit, them managing to finish ahead of both Mahindra-powered teams – Mahindra and ABT CUPRA – is a monumental achievement.
It’s seemingly only up from here for the Silverstone-based squad, who have undergone a rebrand following new investors. The new investors currently don’t want to be named. As part of the rebrand, NIO will no longer be involved in Formula E, bringing the Chinese manufacturer’s seven-year stint in the series to an end.
As part of the new investment, ERT are hoping to make their technology and IP commercial and implement it into everyday road cars. There is also an intent to continue working towards sustainable transport options.
A new livery is expected to be unveiled ahead of pre-season testing in Valencia, which gets underway on Tuesday.
“We are proud to unveil our new identity as the ERT Formula E Team, it is an exciting step in our journey,” said Alex Hui, Team Principal for ERT Formula E Team.
“As the only manufacturer Formula E team that is not currently tied to an OEM, our powertrain and software development has been done independently, putting us in a unique position.
“Utilising what we have learnt on track, we have already identified that we have a lot to offer in terms of improving electric vehicle performance, not just in relation to powertrains but whole vehicle engineering support and solutions, something which is already proving of interest within the automotive and motorsport industries.
“It is a natural progression for us to move forward commercialising this knowledge with the increasing global adoption of EVs, particularly as Formula E provides such a strong platform for OEMs and as such our conversations with partners in this arena are already advanced.”
