AlphaTauri driver Daniel Ricciardo has been taken to hospital for further checks after an accident during second practice for Formula 1’s Dutch Grand Prix.
Ricciardo went off at the banked Turn 3 at Zandvoort moments after compatriot Oscar Piastri crashed further up the same corner.
The damage to Ricciardo’s AT04 was relatively minor but the Australian immediately radioed AlphaTauri to suggest he had hurt his hand.
Ricciardo extricated himself from the car and pointed to his left hand as an issue when conversing with marshals.
The FIA confirmed that Ricciardo has gone to hospital for further checks.
In the event of Ricciardo being ruled out of the remainder of the event AlphaTauri has Liam Lawson on standby as its reserve driver.
It is understood that Nyck de Vries, who was replaced by Ricciardo prior to the Hungarian Grand Prix, remains under contract with AlphaTauri’s parent organisation Red Bull.
Drivers can be replaced at any time up until the start of qualifying per Formula 1 regulations.
