David Malukas is confident that his plans for the 2024 season are solid, despite not yet being ready to reveal what those plans are.
The 21-year-old driver revealed earlier in the year that he would not be returning to Dale Coyne Racing with HMD Motorsports after the 2023 season concludes, adding his name to the considerable list of drivers that are making changes this offseason.
He has been linked with a few different openings in the paddock, but indicated that he is no longer waiting on anything to determine where he is going to be driving next season.
Malukas stopped short of saying that he has a contract signed already, but gave a strong indication that he has solid plans lined up already.
“I’m 100 percent confident,” said Malukas. “I don’t have any anxiety or any of that stuff. I think our next year is looking very strong, and yeah, it looks very good.
“I don’t know much about what I can say here or there, but all I can say is it looks very good.
“From my side, it’s all very good. There’s no more waiting, no more nothing to be done. From my side, it’s just focusing on trying to finish this season strong and looking forward to next season.”
There are a few high-profile seats still available, including ones at Chip Ganassi Racing and Arrow McLaren, in addition to multiple others scattered throughout the paddock.
Malukas has been rumored to be talking with a few of the teams with availability, but where he is headed has not yet been made public.
He did say that his plans were not affected by the recent news that Marcus Ericsson is moving from Ganassi to Andretti Autosport, and the pressure he felt earlier in the year to show he is worthy of a seat with a good team is no longer there.
“I’d say from Nashville kind of being the last race and earlier, yeah, I definitely had that extra pressure of trying to make sure we can perform and show results and show that I need to be there.
“But at this standpoint and the rest of the season from my side there’s no more stress, and I just get to enjoy the last few races and look forward to what comes next year.”
Malukas is expecting confirmation of his 2024 IndyCar plans to be revealed after the current season wraps up in Laguna Seca on September 10.
