Jake Hughes will remain with the NEOM McLaren Formula E Team for the 2024 Formula E World Championship, following confirmation from the Woking-based team.
McLaren have opted to retain the British driver after his impressive rookie campaign, which saw him claim two pole positions and three top-five finishes, one of which came on his debut in Mexico City.
He performed admirably in season nine and is definitely a driver who’ll only get better the more experience he gains, although his one-lap pace is already up there with the best in the paddock.
Hughes is very pleased to be remaining with the British outfit for a second season, who he’s been with since season seven as a reserve driver when the team was known as Mercedes-EQ.
“I’m really happy to be remaining with the NEOM McLaren Formula E Team for Season 10,” Hughes said.
“The team has been my home for a number of years, and I have loved every minute of it. We had a bit of a mixed season, but I had a lot of personal highlights which I’m hoping to build upon next year with the team and fight for wins and podiums, which I have no doubt we’ll be able to achieve together. I can’t wait for Season 10.”
It’s expected that Hughes will be joined by Jaguar TCS Racing departee and Formula E veteran Sam Bird for season 10; however, McLaren are yet to confirm this. They announced earlier in the week that René Rast wouldn’t be continuing next season, someone who Hughes got on with well.
Team Principal Ian James was very “impressed” by Hughes’ maiden Formula E season and how quickly he gelled into the paddock, with the team boss being excited to see what the “future holds” for the driver and the team.
“I am excited to be able to share that we will be continuing our relationship with Jake,” James said.
“Even though we never had any doubts about his performance, he impressed the team and the wider paddock with a great rookie season. Jake’s commitment to the team and to Formula E is outstanding. I cannot wait to see what the future holds for Jake and the NEOM McLaren Formula E Team.”
