Ricardo Feller for ABT Sportsline secured his second pole position this season ahead of the second race later today at the Nurburgring, Round 4 of the 2023 championship schedule.
The Swiss driver put his Audi R8 LMS Evo 2 on pole position late into the 20-minute qualifying session which took place in damp track conditions.
Yesterday’s winner and pole-sitter Mirko Bortolotti was one of several drivers caught out by the challenging circumstances, spinning his #92 SSR Performance Lamborghini Huracan Evo 2 at Turn 3 and triggering a red flag when he was unable to get himself going again, thus being the only driver not to set a lap time.
A lap time of 1:19.562 by Feller beat Sheldon van der Linde of Schubert Motorsport who settled for second place with a time of 1:29.809 in his BMW M4 GT3.
In third place was Jack Aitken’s #14 Emil Frey Ferrari 296 GT3 with a 1:30.028.
Both Winward Racing drivers landed fourth and fifth spots with their Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evos, David Schumacher with a 1:30.277 to put him in front of teammate Lucas Auer’s 1:30.340.
Marco Wittmann for Project 1 set a 1:30.477 lap time in his BMW M4 GT3 as the second-fastest BMW of the session, and sixth overall.
In seventh position was Maro Engel, who set a 1:30.503 time in his Mercedes-AMG.
Eighth and ninth places were the only Porsches in the top-10, Manthey EMA’s Dennis Olsen with a 1:30.654 and Toksport WRT’s Tim Heinemann who set a 1:30.899.
Rounding of the top-10 was Feller’s teammate, Kelvin van der Linde, who put out a time of 1:30.928 in his Audi.
Race 2 takes place later today at 12:30 BST.
