Lamborghini has taken the wraps off its new SC63 LMDh prototype, with which it will enter the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship and the FIA World Endurance Championship next year.

That includes racing in the top class of both championships, GTP in IMSA and Hypercar in WEC, with a single car in each.

It will enter two cars in the Daytona 24 Hours in January, where it will make its debut, and the 24 Hours of Le Mans in June. Unfortunately the IMSA car will only race in the IMSA Endurance Cup rounds, and not the full season.

The car is built to the LMDh technical ruleset, based on a next-gen LMP2 chassis built by French race car manufacturer Ligier.

It will be powered by a bespoke 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 engine coupled with the specification 50 kW Williams Advanced Engineering hybrid system in all LDMh cars.

It will be raced as a factory programme by Italian race team Iron Lynx, which currently enters the WEC with three cars in GTE-Am. Iron Lynx will have support from Prema, which is also owned by the same organisation as Iron Lynx, DC Racing Solutions.

Iron Lynx Team Principal and CEO, Andrea Piccini, commented: “Being involved in such an ambitious project is a once in a lifetime experience.

“We’re honoured and extremely excited to be part of it and to start a new chapter for Iron Lynx with Lamborghini.

“It’s been amazing to see everything finally come together for the reveal of the SC63.

“Everyone at Iron Lynx is eager for testing to get underway.

“This is undoubtedly one of the biggest challenges we’ve ever faced as a team, and we are now looking forward to seeing the SC63 on track.”

While its not yet known who exactly will race the car in each series, Lamborghini has multiple factory-supported drivers on its payroll, including longtime Lamborghini drivers Mirko Bortolotti and Andrea Caldarelli, plus new signings earlier this year, Romain Grosjean and Daniil Kvyat. Grosjean is expected to race in the IMSA rounds as the Frenchman focuses on his Indycar campaign.

Other drivers are expected to be confirmed later in the year and testing is set to commence soon.

The car was unveiled at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in Chichester, in the south east of the United Kingdom. The world famous motorsport festival runs from today until Sunday.
