Valtteri Bottas is likely to be excluded from qualifying for Formula 1’s British Grand Prix due to an insufficient fuel sample.
Bottas stopped on track during the closing stages of Q1 at Silverstone having already secured a spot in Q2.
During usual post-session checks it was only possible for a 0.090 litre sample to be taken from Bottas’ Alfa Romeo.
The amount of fuel needed to produce the mandatory litre sample was 2.39 litres, which was calculated as the fuel required to provide the litre plus the fuel that would have been needed for Bottas to reach the pit lane from where he stopped on track.
As a result Bottas is expected to be disqualified from the results.
Bottas, who qualified in 15th place, is therefore anticipated to start Sunday’s race from the back of the grid, shuffling up those who were eliminated from Q1 up one spot each.
