Sergio Perez is in a race to overcome an illness for the Austrian Grand Prix weekend after missing Thursday media duties.
Red Bull confirmed that the Mexican driver was feeling unwell and is focused on recovering during the day to ensure he is able to drive for the race weekend.
Perez currently sits second in the Drivers’ Championship, 69 points down on team-mate Max Verstappen who has taken the last five race wins.
Perez has two victories to his name in 2023, which came in Saudi Arabia and Azerbaijan.
Should Perez be unable to take part in the race weekend, Red Bull has Liam Lawson and Daniel Ricciardo on standby to jump into his seat.
However, drivers have skipped the Thursday of a race weekend in the past in order to recover before getting behind the wheel of the car.
The weekend marks Red Bull’s home race in Austria, and it is an event that it has won three times in the last five years.
