Max Verstappen will form himself into the greatest driver in the history of Formula 1 before he retires, believes former team owner Eddie Jordan.
Last time out at the Canadian Grand Prix, Verstappen took his 41st career victory to match the tally of Ayrton Senna.
Verstappen is now joint fifth all-time in race wins, and seventh in all-time podiums at just 25 years of age.
The Dutchman dominated the 2022 season en route to his second F1 title and is already being tipped to take his third championship this year amid a strong start to the campaign.
Red Bull’s formidable pace at the start of the 2023 season has led to suggestions that it could take every race win on offer – a feat that has never been achieved before.
Verstappen previously cooled suggestions that it would do so, with Red Bull team boss Christian Horner also remaining cautious over the prospect.
“We just take things one race at a time, and I don’t think you let your mind drift too far into the future – so many things can go wrong,” Horner told Sky F1.
“Can we? Yes. Will we? Who knows? Because there’s so many variables in this game and we’re just taking things one race at a time.
“The team are doing an incredible job, Max is driving out of his skin as well at the moment, so just collectively the group are doing a tremendous job.”
Verstappen’s dominance has led fans to highlight the boring nature of the last 18 months in F1.
Jordan says that it is worse than Schumacher’s dominance in the early 2000s and has backed Verstappen to become the greatest driver in F1.
“Max Verstappen will emerge over time to be the greatest driver of all time,” Jordan stated, speaking on the Formula For Success podcast. “He’s that good.
“I don’t like the last couple of races, I have to tell you. I’m bored to death with him. He’s just that good. He’s making it boring, more so than the Schumacher era.”
