Marc Marquez will sit out the German Grand Prix having suffered a fractured finger in a warm-up crash on Sunday morning at the Sachsenring.

The Honda racer had suffered a difficult weekend at a venue he has dominated across the entirety of his premier class career, Marquez having failed to take the chequered flag first for the first time in Saturday’s sprint race as he struggled home in 11th as Honda continue to lack speed and consistency as an organisation.

Marquez suffered a total of four crashes throughout the opening two days of the event as he did his best to try and keep his incredible finishing record at the circuit alive, though another get-off in Sunday’s warm-up outing – at Turn 7 – proved to be the one that finally provided consequences as he sustained a fractured finger.

Honda subsequently announced less than an hour before lights out in Germany that Marquez would sit out the contest in order to allow his finger time to recover prior to next weekend’s Dutch TT at Assen.

This means Takaaki Nakagami will be the only one of Honda’s four riders to take the race start, the LCR man’s team-mate Alex Rins out until at least the British GP in August with a broken leg while Joan Mir is missing the weekend with an injured hand thanks to a crash in practice for last weekend’s Italian GP.
