Franck Perera took pole for the opening race of the DTM season at Oschersleben, with the SSR Performance Lamborghini driver setting a 1:21.370.
That’s Lamborghini’s first ever DTM pole, plus Perera’s first DTM pole.
This was just 0.018 faster than Jack Aitken in second, in the Emil Ferrari Ferrari, with Mirko Bortolotti third, a further 0.056 off Perera, in the sister SSR Performance Lamborghini.
Fourth was newcomer Mick Wishofer, also driving a Lamborghini, this time for GRT Grasser Racing Team, just over a tenth off Perera.
The first non-Italian car of the session was steered by Ricardo Feller to fifth, the Abt Sportsline Audi driver just eight thousandths off Wishofer. In sixth was the Manthey Porsche of Thomas Preining, with Tim Heinemann seventh in the Toksport Porsche.
Eighth was three time champion Rene Rast in the Schubert BMW, while Laurin Heinrich was ninth in the Team Bernhard Porsche. Rounding out the top 10 was Kelvin van der Linde in the other Anbt Sportsline Audi.
Many drivers left it late to set a time in the 20 minute session, resulting in some missing out — such as series champion Sheldon van der Linde, who could only set a lap quick enough for 19th in the second Schubert BMW.
The race starts 1:30pm local time.
