The pace car for the 2023 Indianapolis 500 was revealed on Tuesday, with the 2023 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 being shown off for the first time.
It is the 20th time that the Corvette has been used for ‘The Greatest Spectacle in Racing,’ more than any other car, and marks the 34th time that Chevrolet has been given the honor of pacing the 33 car field.
This year’s edition features a 5.5 liter LT6 V8 engine, which produces 670 horsepower at the rear wheels through natural aspiration.
The Corvette also features Red Mist Metallic paint, along with black and gray accents. The official Indianapolis 500 logo is affixed to the side, and the whole scheme is meant to portray a race-ready look.
“As we celebrate the rich history of the Corvette Pace Car at IMS, it’s amazing to see the evolution of these cars on and off the track,” said IMS President Doug Boles.
“The hardtop convertible on the 2023 Corvette Z06 is just another example of the Chevrolet innovation that translates from track to street.”
The special Corvette, which is a hard top convertible variant for the first time, will be featured at numerous events surrounding the Month of May activities.
The spotlight will be brightest, however, as it leads the field to green in front of 300,000 fans in attendance at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
The 107th running of the Indianapolis 500 takes place on Sunday, May 28 at just after noon Eastern Time.
