Sheldon van der Linde topped the times with a 1:05.841 at 300kW in the first rookie test session in Berlin.
All teams ran two cars in the test except Envision, who only ran Jack Aitken in the morning session while Jonny Edgar sat out.
Times were close despite the field’s lack of experience in these cars, with the top 16 being separated by under a second.
14 of the drivers felt the full power of the Gen3 car, running laps in the 350kW power mode. Despite this being available to the field, van der Linde set his fastest lap in the lower 300kW mode.
Luca Ghiotto spent much of the latter part of the session at the top of the times, with Van der Linde taking the top spot right at the end.
Jehan Daruvala rounded out the top three in the session, just a tenth of a second behind van der Linde.
Despite being their first times driving Formula E machinery, the rookies got up to speed quickly, with the top three breaking into the 1:05 times come to the end of the session.
Ex-Formula 1 driver Danil Kvyat finished the session in fourth in the NIO 333 of Sergio Sette Camara.
The junior series talent in the test was also impressive. Ferarri reserve Robert Shwartzman ended the session in fifth, fellow F1 reserve Felipe Drugovich finished in 12th.
Amongst the drivers still racing in the junior categories, current Formula 3 driver Luke Browning was sixth fastest in the McLaren, setting similar times to those Jake Hughes put together over the ePrix weekend.
Red Bull Junior Zane Maloney was seventh fastest, while fellow Formula 2 driver and reigning F3 champion Victor Martins came home in eighth.
Both McLaren’s made it into the top ten in the session, despite the works drivers being unable to achieve this all weekend, with Charlie Eastwood ending the session in ninth.
Reigning IndyNXT champion Linus Lundqvist ended the session in 13th in Jake Dennis’ Andretti.
WEC drivers and Jota teammates Yifei Ye and Will Stevens ended the session in 16th and 18th place, respectively.
The test continues with a second session this afternoon, with Roberto Mehri taking over the 8 car and Edgar coming in for Aitken.
