Andretti Formula E Team Principal Roger Griffiths says team motivation in the rookie test is “slightly different” as it weighs up options for Andre Lotterer’s Jakarta replacement.
Like several other drivers on the grid, Andre Lotterer is splitting himself between Formula E and WEC this season, continuing his works driver role with Porsche.
However, Lotterer has chosen to prioritise appearances in WEC over Formula E as Porsche focuses on developing their Hypercar entry, leaving his seat open for the Jakarta ePrix.
This gives Andretti a dilemma as to who will replace the experienced German driver. Griffiths believes the rookie test is a perfect chance to evaluate several drivers for the opportunity.
“For us, we’ve also got to make a decision about what we do for Jakarta as well. Because in our situation, Andre Lotter isn’t available to us so, our eyes are a little wider open than just bringing somebody to give them a go.”
“We’ve got a real evaluation session going on for us across, effectively, a pool of four Porsche drivers, so for us our motivation is slightly different.”
Porsche reserve driver David Beckmann is available to the customer team Andretti for the Jakarta event if required. Neither team has confirmed whether Beckmann will take the seat yet.
Linus Lundqvist is believed to be in the running for the Jakarta appearance and is taking part in the test for Andretti.
The 2022 IndyNXT champion is without a competitive drive for the season after issues with his scholarship prize left him without the needed funds to progress.
Sources close to the situation have suggested an appearance for the Swedish driver is possible, but no decisions have been reached.
