NIO 333’s Dan Ticktum received a five-place grid for his involvement in the collision that ended both his and Stoffel Vandoorne’s race.
Ticktum had a positive start to the first race of the Berlin doubleheader, leading the race after the first corner after starting fourth on the grid.
He would go on to fight at the sharp end for most of the first half of the race before squeezing reigning champion Vandoorne into the wall between turns three and four.
With the pack being so close, incidents were common with Ticktum and Vandoorne’s causing the most damage.
The retirement from this race was Vandoorne’s first for two seasons in the championship.
Racing action continues around the Templehof Circuit tomorrow with the second race of the doubleheader.
