Kyle Kirkwood earned his first IndyCar pole in Saturday afternoon’s qualifying from the streets of Long Beach.

Marcus Ericsson nearly earned pole for himself with a late fast lap as time expired, but ended up just 0.0375 seconds off the pace.
Drivers from Andretti Autosport and Chip Ganassi Racing ended up filling five of the top six positions, and Pato O’Ward was the lone representative from Arrow McLaren in the Fast 6.
A few drivers pushed a bit too hard during qualifying and found themselves in the tire barriers, earning themselves a tough task on Sunday.
