McLaren has become the fifth team to announce their rookie test lineup, signing FIA Formula 3’s Luke Browning and sports car talent Charlie Eastwood.
The team have impressed so far in their rookie season in the championship after taking over the successful Mercedes EQ outfit when they left the series at the end of Season 8.
Eastwood has a strong career in sports cars behind him, most recently winning the LMP2 class of the Asian Le Mans Series. The Northern Ireland-born driver was previously an Aston Martin factory driver, as well as being part of their junior programme.
“I’ve been fortunate enough to attend some of the races earlier this season, and I really like the championship. I love the complexity of the series, as well as the car itself.
“I’ve had a taste of it on the simulator and I am sure there will be a lot to learn on the day. I’m super excited and can’t wait to work with the team.”
Browning is one of several Formula 2 and 3 drivers to be taking part in the test, with fellow Brit and F3 driver Jonny Edgar confirmed by Envision Racing.
The Aston Martin BRDC Young Driver Award winner for 2022, Browning has had an impressive climb through the British junior categories, winning both Britsh F4 and GB3.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to gain some experience in very different machinery than usual. I’ll be looking to pick up as much as I can from the successful and experienced team I will be surrounded by.
“It will be a different style of driving compared to what I’m used to – I don’t doubt I have a lot to learn, but I’m eager to pick it up as quickly as possible.”
