Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Perez will start from the pit lane at Formula 1’s Australian Grand Prix after making changes not permitted under parc ferme conditions.
The pair were due to line up on the back row together after a disappointing outcome in qualifying.
Bottas was only 19th while Perez crashed early in Q1 amid issues with his Red Bull RB19.
Alfa Romeo has made changes to the suspension set-up of Bottas’ car overnight and while this has been done with the permission of FIA Technical Delegate Jo Bauer it is nonetheless in contravention of parc ferme regulations.
Red Bull has used the opportunity of Perez starting from the back of the grid to fit new power unit components.
His RB19 has been equipped with a fresh Energy Store and Control Electronics, the third of the season for both components, exceeding his allocation.
As Red Bull undertook the changes without prior written permission from Bauer Perez must start from the pit lane rather than the back of the grid.
