The red flag was momentarily brought out when a piece of Nyck de Vries’ sidepod flew off his AlphaTauri, while Alfa Romeo’s Zhou Guanyu survived a collision with the barrier at Turn 2.
Verstappen’s team-mate Sergio Perez endured a rough time of it throughout much of the session as he went for multiple excursions off the track, and he eventually managed a lap time good enough for sixth.
McLaren’s Lando Norris suffered a mechanical issue during the session, ultimately sending him to last.
Much like FP2 on Friday, rain emerged late on in the session, bringing the action to a close.
