Netflix has confirmed the actor that will portray Ayrton Senna in an upcoming series focused on the life of the three-time World Champion.
In 2020, it was announced that the streaming service giant would produce a mini-series about the Brazilian.
It has now declared that actor Gabriel Leone will pose as Senna, who is widely regarded as one of the greatest Formula 1 drivers of all time.
Originally, eight episodes were planned for the series, but that has now been reverted to six parts.
Leone, who was born in Rio de Janeiro, portrayed Alfonso de Portago in the upcoming movie Ferrari, which focuses on the life of Enzo Ferrari.
Senna made his F1 debut in 1984 and found a bulk of his success – including his three world titles – at the McLaren team.
He is famous for his strong pace over one lap and his ruthless wheel-to-wheel combat, and shared a strong rivalry with Alain Prost during his prime.
Senna died at the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix after being involved in a high-speed collision with a barrier.
The life of the Brazilian has been subject to the big screen before – in 2010, a successful documentary named ‘Senna’ was realised, which won two awards at the BAFTAs.
Gabriel Leone will play Ayrton Senna in Senna, a six-episode series based on the life of Ayrton Senna, the world-famous Formula 1 icon.
