Toyota led the charge in the second practice session of the 1000M of Sebring with Ferarri once again rounding out the top three.
The Japanese manufacturer’s #8 entry set the pace once again, with Kamui Kobayashi putting in a 1:46.954 – three-tenths off the sister car in P2.
The session featured disrupted running with two red flags, the first being caused by a collision between the #2 Cadillac Hypercar and the #88 Proton Racing Porsche GTE.
The #7 entry improved on this morning’s running, joining the sister car up at the top, Brendon Hartley setting a best time of 1:47.272.
Third, in the session was the #51 Ferarri with Antonio Fucco finishing the session 1.1 seconds off the lead Toyota with a 1:48.121.
Despite the early contact, Richard Westbrook set a 1:48.265 worthy of fourth in the session in the #02 Cadillac.
The #50 Ferarri ended the session in fifth with the #708 Glickenhaus making great progress in the session with Olivier Pla at the wheel. The other non-hybrid Vanwall entry finished 20th
Porsche had a mixed session, with their #05 car ending up seventh while the #06 came home 16th. Meanwhile, the two Peugeots finished the session in ninth and 14th with the #94 entry being the faster of the two.
In LMP2 Jota’s #28 entry topped the class with Pietro Fittipaldi setting a 1:50.326. Both United Autosport entries rounded out the top three with Phillip Hanson in the #22 beating out the sister car by under a hundredth of a second.
In GTE AM, #57 Kessel Racing finished the session fastest, with Daniel Serra putting together a 2:03.669. The #33 Corvette came home second thanks to Nicky Catsburg, three-tenths off the lead lap, while #777 D’Station Racing rounded out the top three in class.
Action returns tomorrow with the third practice of the 1000M of Sebring getting underway at 11:55 local time.
