Lando Norris has shared details of the famous WhatsApp group consisting of all of the Formula 1 drivers.
It has been known that a WhatsApp group has existed for the last couple of years in which all of the drivers can communicate directly.
Mercedes’ George Russell revealed recently that the chat is known to get “out of control” at times.
“There is a WhatsApp group,” he told the Fast and the Curious podcast.
“I mean it’s not like we’re sending banter in there day after day but there are occasions where something may have happened on track and suddenly people are sending memes in and whatever and it gets a bit out of control.”
More details of the famous group chat have been revealed by Norris, who revealed that a certain World Champion is the icon of the group.
“James Hunt as the group photo,” Norris also said on the Fast and the Curious podcast.”
But Norris has calmed suggestions that it consists of drivers sharing jokes and memes with each other.
“It’s true [the group exists]. It’s not so much like ‘hey, we’re all mates’. It’s a lot more for talking about things that can help us as drivers in terms of rules, regulations, it’s more like how can we represent ourselves?
“I don’t know how much [George] revealed, he’s like the head of it.”
With 20 drivers on the grid, Norris was asked who is the most vocal in the group – to which he stated that everyone contributes in some way.
“It’s a little bit of everyone,” he said. “We are all kind of chatting and working together to come up with different ideas.
“We’ve got Esteban [Ocon], we got Zhou [Guanyu], we’ve got Alex [Albon]. Everyone chats in it [but] I can’t find any memes.”
