Revived Italian manufacturer Isotta Fraschini has unveiled its Tipo 6 LMH Competizione, which the squad hopes to race in the FIA World Endurance Championship this year.
The car has been tested on a 4WD drive dyno already, with a testing and development due to begin shortly, together with UK-based team Vector Sport, which will run the programme in the WEC.
The team will compete on a race-by-race basis in WEC this year, with a planned debut at Monza, the Milan-based manufacturer’s home race, in July. It then plans to race in the full season in 2024.
The Tipo 6 LMH-C will be powered by a V6 turbocharged engine, developed by engine specialists HWA, specifically and exclusively for this car. Unlike the other ‘boutique’ Hypercar entrants from ByKolles/Vanwall and Glickenhaus, the car will also have a hybrid component.
It has been built by Italian motorsport specialists Michelotto, with the aerodynamics developed in partnership with Williams F1 team. The drivers of the car are yet to be announced.
Claudio Berro, Isotta Fraschini technical director, said: “Today, we are exactly where we predicted 4 months ago, when we announced that Isotta Fraschini would be back and that it would do so, according to tradition, with a racing car.
“The Tipo 6 LMH Competizione is now in its complete and real configuration and the intentions for the 2023 season remain those of competing in the 2023 WEC championship with the “race by race” formula, as soon as the car is homologated by the FIA. In the meantime, we will be grinding kilometers together with the team Vector Sport to be ready as soon as possible.”
