Sebastian Buemi took his Envision Racing machine to the top of the times in the first full-power running in Hyderabad.
With the session delayed for almost an hour due to operational issues outside of the track, the drivers finally got going on their first full-power laps of the Hyderabad circuit hoping to collect as much data as possible.
Several of the drivers mentioned in the press conference earlier in the day about the dustiness of the track, as well as track limits being an issue at the newly formed chicane at Turns 1 and 2.
The session stopped within minutes of the green flag waving after Pascal Wehrlein’s throttle got stuck, causing him to spin at high speed and crash his Porsche into the barriers.
The shunt brought out the red flag delaying the running for another five minutes.
All of the remaining Porsche-powered cars were unable to continue the session, the teams were unwilling to send their drivers out until they understood the extent of the issue.
Reports after the session also stated that Pascal Wehrlein has been seen for an injury to his foot, with updates being promised in due course.
Meanwhile, it was a success for Jaguar power with all four of their cars in the top ten in the session, with Buemi’s teammate Nick Cassidy ending the session tenth.
The Jaguar works team finished with Sam Bird in fourth and Mitch Evans in sixth.
After a difficult couple of weekends for DS Penske, both of their cars finished in the top ten. Reigning champion Stoffel Vandoorne finished practice in second while Jean-Eric Vergne ended the session in eighth.
NIO 333 showed their single pace once again with Sergio Sette Camara ending the session third. Dan Ticktum had a more eventful session getting hit from behind by Edoardo Mortara and finished the session 11th.
The action in the inaugural Hyderbad E-Prix continues tomorrow with FP2 starting at 08:05 local time.
