The #6 Porsche has been pushed back into the garage, as it erupted into plumes of white smoke on track, causing the latest full course yellow caution period.
While the car, with Nick Tandy at the wheel, was three laps off the lead after minor issues earlier on, it was still looking good to finish the race ahead of some of its rivals. However, that may not be the case now, with the car having been pushed back into the garage with no signs of leaving soon.
The other Porsche, #6, had other issues earlier on in the race, which required the car’s hybrid battery to be changed mid-race. That car currently sits fifteenth overall with Felipe Nasr at the wheel, behind the LMP2s and only in front of the stricken #25 BMW, which had even more serious issues earlier in the race related to the car’s MGU.
The Porsche’s issue is gearbox-related, a team representative told MotorsportWeek.com, with a new rear end transmission being prepared for the car in the garage.
