The #25 BMW M Hybrid V8 may be back out on track in 30 minutes, according to Connor De Phillippi, one of the car’s drivers, after suffering a hybrid issue more than an hour ago.
The car stopped on track around an hour into the race, Nick Yelloly at the wheel, with the hybrid ‘not safe to touch’ light flashing. Once the car was made safe, BMW Team RLL mechanics pushed it back to the garage, where it has remained since, being taken apart into an increasing number of bits.
The car, driven by Yelloly, Connor de Phillippi, Sheldon van der Linde and Colton Herta, is now more than 61 laps down.
De Phillippi told MotorsportWeek.com, “Yeah, some sort of technical issue. I’m not sure if it’s a battery or one of the part of the hybrid system. The guys and girls that are allowed worked really hard to get it back together and hopefully be out back on track here soon, hopefully in the next 30 minutes.”
